While many people think that Kickboxing and Muay Thai are very similar,
in terms of technique and fighting styles, they are in many ways, completely different.
Muay Thai, in broad terms, fits under the category of ‘Kickboxing’ though
there are more differences than there are similarities.
Kickboxing utilizes the 4-point striking system (punches and kicks) while Muay Thai utilizes the 8-point striking system (punches, kicks, knees, elbows) and the ‘full’ clinch.
I began with a Russian variation of Karate during my childhood in Ukraine. Our trainer was keen on real-life application as our living situation demanded it, so we focused on sparring and conditioning for most of our training. I build a rugged foundation which proved highly applicable in US where I discovered Kickboxing and later Muay Thai.
